A safety check-in app for frequent travelers

A safety check-in app for travelers who are always on the move—you don't need a daily ritual. Get watched over only while a journey is active, or keep a light weekly check-in, so someone knows you're okay without you thinking about it every day.

The Problem

Sound familiar? You're not alone.

You travel so often that a daily check-in starts to feel like a chore you'll forget on the road

Constantly crossing time zones breaks any fixed daily reminder

Between trips you're home alone, and no one would notice for days if something went wrong

You want family reassured while you're away without handing over your live location

Roaming charges, patchy hotel wifi, and international texting make a daily message home a hassle

How I'm Alive Solves This

A simple solution that actually works.

Trips-only mode ('Only when I'm out'): no daily check-in at all—you're watched over only while a journey is active, and never pinged for a missed daily check-in between trips

Prefer something lighter than daily but steadier than trips-only? A weekly check-in keeps a low-touch safety net on every plan—deliberately light monitoring, not the tight escalation of a daily routine

One tap says 'I'm okay' and nothing more—the check-in itself carries no location, so a daily, weekly, or trips-only tap reassures family without sharing where you are

Check in with one tap from a home-screen widget or a paired Apple Watch—handy when you're moving through an airport

Heading somewhere higher-risk? Switch to a daily routine—or up to two check-in windows a day on Stay Protected, or three a day on Complete Safety Net—for that leg, then switch back when you're home

Timezone-aware, so any routine you keep follows you across borders instead of nagging you at 3 AM local time

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 'only when I'm out' and a daily check-in?

'Only when I'm out' is a mode, not a slower schedule. You have no daily check-in and are never paged for a missed one—you are watched over only while an explicit journey is active. A daily routine is the opposite: you tap once a day, and if you miss it, your emergency contact is alerted after a grace period. Frequent travelers who do not want a daily obligation usually pick trips-only, or a weekly check-in for a lighter always-on net.

I do not want to check in every single day. Is there a lighter option?

Yes—the weekly check-in. It is available on every plan and is intentionally light: your next check-in is simply due seven days after your last one (a rolling window, not a fixed weekday). If it is missed you get gentle reminders, and only if it stays unanswered does a single non-emergency note reach your contact by email about two days after it was due. It is deliberately lighter than the tight, multi-stage escalation of a daily routine—no SMS, no back-and-forth—so choose it only when a once-a-week 'still okay' is enough for you.

Do you track my location while I travel?

A check-in itself shares no location—tapping the button sends only that you are okay, nothing about where you are. Location is used only by separate journey and SOS safety features that you turn on and control. So you can reassure family with a daily, weekly, or trips-only check-in without broadcasting your whereabouts.

How is this different from your solo travelers page?

The solo travelers page is about keeping a daily check-in going while you are on a single trip. This page is for people who travel so frequently that a daily ritual does not fit—using the trips-only mode or a light weekly check-in instead. If you want a steady daily tap while abroad, start with solo travelers; if you want the lightest possible safety net across constant travel, start here.

What happens if I miss a check-in on a trip?

On a daily routine, a missed check-in escalates to your emergency contact after a grace period so they can reach out. Weekly is deliberately lighter—reminders to you and then a single non-emergency notice to your contact, not the daily multi-stage escalation. In trips-only mode there is no daily miss to escalate—you are monitored only while an active journey is running. The free Check In plan and the one-time Stay Connected & Travel Safely plan each support one emergency contact; Stay Protected and Complete Safety Net support up to ten.

Does it work abroad and across time zones?

Yes. Check-ins are timezone-aware, so a routine you keep follows you from city to city instead of firing at the wrong hour. Alerts to your contact travel by push notification and email, which work in any country with an internet connection—there is no US-only dispatch center your safety net depends on. One honest limit: I'm Alive alerts the people you trust, not emergency services, so pick a contact who would actually pick up and act.

Can I check in from a widget or my Apple Watch?

Yes. You can check in with one tap from a home-screen widget: on iPhone (iOS 17 and later) and on Android the tap records a real, server-confirmed check-in right there, and the tile turns green only once our servers have it (older iPhones open the app to finish). There is also a native Apple Watch app—one tap sends 'I'm OK' from your wrist. It needs watchOS 9.4 or later paired to your iPhone, routes through the phone, and costs nothing extra.

What does it cost for someone who travels a lot?

The check-in is free forever on the Check In plan ($0): one emergency contact and one miss-alert a month by push and email. Stay Connected & Travel Safely is a one-time $4.99 and raises that to five miss-alerts a month. Stay Protected ($29.99/yr) adds up to ten contacts and alerts every time you miss, with SMS alongside push and email. Complete Safety Net ($39.99/yr) adds opt-in live location and Follow Me for the active journeys and SOS moments where you do want your location shared.
