Safety routines

Choose the safety routine that's right for you

You decide how often I'm Alive checks in with you.

Some people want reassurance several times a day. Others want a simple daily check-in. If you don't need daily monitoring, you can choose a lighter weekly routine.

Routines are monitoring preferences. Incidents and emergency escalation work separately from your routine.4

1 · For maximum reassurance

3× Daily1

Check in three times a day

Best for: People who want frequent reassurance, people living alone, older adults, or anyone whose family wants more frequent confirmation.

If you miss a check-in, I'm Alive first gives you an opportunity to respond. If the required number of windows are missed, the system can escalate to your trusted contact.

Good for you if:

  • You live alone
  • Your family wants more frequent reassurance
  • You have a regular daily routine
  • You want the strongest routine monitoring
“I want my daughter to know I'm okay in the morning, afternoon and evening.”

2 · Simple everyday reassurance

Daily

One check-in a day

Best for: Most people who want a simple safety habit without frequent reminders.

If you don't check in, I'm Alive follows your configured safety process.

Good for you if:

  • You want something simple
  • You have a predictable routine
  • You want your family to know you're okay every day
  • You don't need multiple check-ins
“I'll check in every morning. If I don't, my daughter should know.”

3 · Light monitoring

Weekly2

One check-in a week

Best for: People who want a safety connection but don't need daily monitoring.

This is deliberately different from Daily Safety. The weekly routine is light monitoring, not the same emergency escalation experience as 3× Daily or Daily.

Good for you if:

  • You travel frequently
  • Your schedule changes
  • You don't want a daily reminder
  • You still want someone to know you're active
  • You're looking for occasional reassurance rather than daily monitoring
“I don't need someone checking on me every day. I just want to stay connected.”

Auto check-in3

Opening the app counts as your check-in

If you already open I'm Alive most mornings, the extra tap is one step too many. Turn auto check-in on and simply opening the app inside your window completes it — the same check-in, recorded the same way, with your circle notified the same way.

It's off until you turn it on. A safety action shouldn't start happening because of an app update, so you choose it deliberately and can switch it off in Settings at any time.

How it behaves:

  • Only inside your check-in window — opening the app at midnight does nothing
  • Once per window — twenty opens is still one check-in
  • You're told it happened, and you can undo it straight away
  • Your history shows “checked in automatically” — never overstated to family
  • Nothing about escalation changes — a missed window still escalates
“I open the app every morning anyway. That should be enough.”
