Weekly — one light check-in every seven days
Key Benefits
How It Works
Pick 'Weekly' in your check-in routine settings. From then on, your next check-in is due seven days after your last one (or after you first set it up). Tap 'I'm Okay' any time in that window. Weekly is a deliberately lighter form of monitoring than Daily or 3x Daily: there are no daily reminder windows and no daily overdue-and-escalate ladder. If a weekly check-in does slip past its window, you get a gentle reminder or two, and only if you still don't respond does a single non-emergency notice reach your contact—see the FAQ below.
How the weekly check-in works
The Weekly routine is the lightest of I'm Alive's three check-in schedules. Instead of a check-in due every day, you confirm you're okay once a week with a single tap on the 'I'm Okay' button. There is nothing to do on the days in between and no daily reminder windows to keep up with.
The timing is a rolling seven-day clock, not a fixed calendar day. Your next check-in becomes due exactly seven days after your last one — or, when you first turn the routine on, seven days after you set it up. Behind the scenes I'm Alive computes the due moment as your last check-in (or your account creation, whichever is later) plus seven days, so the window always moves with you rather than locking to, say, 'every Monday'. Check in on a Wednesday and your next one is due the following Wednesday; check in a day early and the whole window simply shifts forward with you.
You can tap in any time before the window closes, from the app or with one tap on the home-screen widget — it records the same real, server-confirmed check-in either way.
Weekly vs. Daily and 3x Daily
I'm Alive gives you three check-in routines so the app can match how much reassurance you actually want. Daily asks for one check-in a day; 3x Daily adds a morning, afternoon and evening window; and Weekly asks for just one confirmation every seven days.
The difference is not only how often you tap — it is how firmly the app follows up. Daily is built for closer monitoring: miss a day past the grace period and your emergency contacts are notified, and on a paid plan that follow-up is faster and multi-channel. Weekly is deliberately gentler. It is designed for people who don't want a daily obligation but still like leaving a periodic 'still fine here' marker that someone would eventually notice if it stopped.
Daily and Weekly are both available on every plan, including the free Check In tier. 3x Daily is the paid routine — the free Check In and Stay Connected & Travel Safely plans include one scheduled check-in a day, Stay Protected ($29.99/yr) covers up to two windows, and Complete Safety Net ($39.99/yr) adds the third. You can switch between all three routines in settings whenever your needs change, without losing your contacts or your history.
What happens if you miss a weekly check-in
Because Weekly is light monitoring, a missed weekly check-in does not trigger the fast, multi-stage emergency escalation that the Daily routine can run on a paid plan. The follow-up is gentler and slower on purpose.
If your seven-day window passes without a check-in, I'm Alive first sends a gentle reminder to you. About 24 hours later, if you still haven't tapped in, it sends a second reminder — again, just to you. Only if that also goes unanswered does anyone else hear about it: roughly 48 hours after the check-in was due, a single low-key notice goes to your emergency contact by email. It is a non-emergency 'haven't heard from them this week' heads-up — there is no SMS, no repeated alerts, and no separate all-clear message.
That one contact notice is real — Weekly does reach out to someone if you go quiet — but it is intentionally a single, calm email rather than the layered push, email and SMS escalation that Daily can run. If you want that faster, more insistent contact-alerting, Daily on a paid plan is the better fit, and you can switch at any time.
Who the weekly routine is for
Weekly suits people who want a light, occasional confirmation rather than a daily habit — generally independent adults who live alone and like the idea of a periodic touchpoint without a prompt every morning. It is also a comfortable starting point: some people begin on Weekly to get used to the rhythm, then move up to Daily or 3x Daily if their situation changes.
It works just as well from the point of view of the person keeping an eye out. A far-away family member or friend does not need to chase a daily update; they simply know that if a whole week goes by with no sign of life, they will get a quiet note.
Weekly is available on every plan, so you can run it for free on the Check In tier for as long as you like. On the free plan, if you go quiet your emergency contact is still alerted, capped at one alert a month by push and email. Paid plans — Stay Protected and Complete Safety Net — add SMS escalation, unlimited alerts and up to ten emergency contacts, which matter most if you later move to a closer, daily routine.
Your weekly check-in and your privacy
A weekly check-in is about as low-footprint as safety monitoring gets. The check-in itself does not share your location — tapping 'I'm Okay' simply records that you are fine, not where you are. You are not being tracked between check-ins, and there is no camera, microphone or always-on sensor tied to your weekly check-in.
That makes Weekly a good fit for people who want the reassurance of a safety net without feeling watched. Location only ever comes into play in features you switch on deliberately — for example, richer location on a missed-check-in escalation is a paid, higher-tier option, and even then it is shown as your last known location where available rather than live tracking. The weekly routine on its own asks for none of that.
Everything is server-confirmed, so a check-in only counts once I'm Alive has actually recorded it — your 'checked in' status is never a guess.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often do I check in on the Weekly routine?
Once every seven days. Your next check-in becomes due exactly seven days after your last check-in (or after you first set up the routine), so the window rolls forward each time you check in. It is not tied to a fixed calendar day like 'every Monday'.
Is Weekly a fixed weekday, like every Sunday?
No. The seven-day clock is rolling: it counts seven days from your most recent check-in, not from a set day of the week. Check in on a Tuesday and your next one is due the following Tuesday; check in early and the window shifts with you.
Does the Weekly routine cost extra?
No. I'm Alive has three check-in routines—Daily, 3x Daily, and Weekly—and both Daily and Weekly are available on every plan, including the free Check In tier. 3x Daily is the paid routine (the free Check In and Lifetime plans get one scheduled check-in a day).
Does the Weekly routine ever contact my emergency contact?
Yes, but only once and only if you go quiet. If a weekly check-in is missed and you don't respond to the two reminders, about 48 hours after it was due a single non-emergency email goes to your emergency contact—a low-key 'haven't heard from them this week' note. It is not the repeated, multi-channel escalation the Daily routine can run, and there is no SMS or all-clear.
What happens if I miss my weekly check-in?
Weekly is deliberately light monitoring, not the daily multi-stage emergency escalation. If your seven-day window passes without a check-in, I'm Alive first sends a gentle reminder to you, and about 24 hours later a second reminder—both to you. If you still haven't checked in, about 48 hours after it was due one non-emergency notice goes to your emergency contact by email (no SMS, no repeated alerts, no all-clear)—a single, low-key 'haven't heard from them this week' heads-up. It is not the faster, multi-stage escalation the Daily routine provides on a paid plan, so if you want that faster, contact-alerting response, Daily on a paid plan is the better fit.
Who is the Weekly routine for?
People who want a light, occasional confirmation rather than a daily habit—for example, generally independent adults who like a periodic 'still fine here' touchpoint without a daily prompt. If your situation calls for closer monitoring, you can switch to Daily or 3x Daily in settings at any time.
