Living Alone in Singapore? A Check-in That Goes Where You Go.

88,400 Singapore residents aged 65 and over lived alone in 2025 — more than double the number a decade earlier (Department of Statistics). HDB's Elderly Monitoring System covers eligible flats. This covers you, wherever you happen to be.

The Problem

Sound familiar? You're not alone.

Living alone in a flat where a neighbour would not notice for days

Adult children nearby but not in the same home — everyone assumes someone else is checking

Not eligible for a fitted monitoring system, or not wanting one

How I'm Alive Solves This

A simple solution that actually works.

One tap a day confirms you're okay

Miss it, and the people you chose are told within hours, with your location

No pendant, no sensors in the flat, no GPS tracking — location only in a real emergency, auto-deleted in 72 hours

Why This Works for You

  • For people who live on their own in Singapore — HDB flat, condo, or private housing
  • Nothing fitted to your flat and nothing to qualify for: it runs on the phone you already have
  • Works outside the home too — at the hawker centre, on the MRT, visiting family across the island
  • In a high-rise, a neighbour can be a metre away through a wall and still have no idea anything is wrong

How It Works

Three simple steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from HDB's Elderly Monitoring System?

HDB's EMS is a genuinely good public system — sensors fitted inside eligible flats that detect unusual inactivity and escalate to a responder. Its limits are that it is fitted to one specific flat and you have to qualify. This is the other shape of the same idea: nothing to install, nothing to qualify for, and it works wherever you are — which a flat-based sensor cannot.

How many seniors live alone in Singapore?

88,400 residents aged 65 and over lived in one-person households in 2025 — 11.5% of that age group — according to the Department of Statistics' General Household Survey. That is up from 87,200 in 2024 and 42,100 in 2014.

Does it call 995?

No. It alerts the trusted contacts you chose, with your location. It never calls emergency services and is not connected to a monitoring call centre. For an ambulance call 995; for police, 999.

Do I need to buy anything?

No. There is no pendant, no watch and no hardware for your flat. It runs on your existing iPhone or Android phone.

Is it really free?

The daily check-in is free (Try It, $0) and stays free. Automatic alerts to your contacts when you miss a check-in start on Protect Me ($29.99/year). There is a one-time Stay Connected lifetime upgrade at $4.99, and Protect Me On The Move at $39.99/year adds location on the move.

Does it track my location all day?

No. There is no continuous tracking. Location is shared only when an alert is triggered, and it is automatically deleted after 72 hours.

Does fall detection work here?

Fall detection works anywhere, but currently on iPhone only (app v2.3.1) and on Protect Me or above, and it is off until you turn it on. If your phone senses a hard fall it checks on you first — if you don't respond, your contacts are alerted. No Android version yet, and no Apple Watch required.

I'm an Indian expat in Singapore checking on parents back home — is this the right page?

This page is about living alone in Singapore yourself. If what you want is to check on elderly parents in India from here, we have a page built specifically for that.
