My parents are in India and I'm in the US. How do time zones work?
Your parents choose their check-in time in India, for example 9 AM IST. If they miss it, they get a reminder, and then you're alerted wherever you are and whatever your local time. No time-zone maths needed.
Who should be on the contact list?
You, of course, and at least one person near your parents who can knock on the door: a relative in the same city, a neighbour, a trusted friend. Someone far away can worry; someone nearby can check. Protect Me allows up to 10 contacts.
How do alerts reach me abroad?
By email, and by text message on Protect Me. If you install I'm Alive yourself, you also get app notifications. Text messages to some countries depend on local carriers, so add your email too, and send a test alert to see what arrives.
Can I help set up the app for my parents remotely?
Yes. Video call them and walk them through it: install the app, choose a check-in time, add the contacts, and send a clearly marked test alert so everyone sees it arrive.
Is the app available in Hindi or other Indian languages?
Not yet. The app is in English, so it suits parents who read English, or who have someone nearby to help them set it up. Once it's set up, the daily job is one tap.
What if my parents don't have smartphones?
They need an Android phone or an iPhone. If they have an older smartphone, it will likely work. Basic feature phones aren't supported.
Does one plan cover both parents?
No. Each plan protects one person who checks in on their own phone, so each parent needs their own plan.
How much does it cost?
The daily check-in is free in the app, with one contact and one missed check-in alert a month. Protect Me, with an alert every time, text messages and up to 10 contacts, is $29.99 a year. On our website prices are in US dollars; in the App Store or Google Play you'll see your local price.
Is this better than video calling every day?
Different purpose. Video calls are for connection. Check-ins are for safety confirmation. Use both: the check-in for daily peace of mind, video calls when you can.
My parents say they are fine on every call even when they are not. How does this help?
A missed check-in can reveal what words might hide. If your parent always checks in at 8 AM and suddenly stops, that tells you more than a call where they say everything is fine. The absence of a check-in is a signal that something may have changed.
Is it an emergency service?
No. I'm Alive alerts the people your parents choose. It is not an emergency service or a medical device, and it doesn't call emergency services. That's why a contact near your parents matters.
