Frequently Asked Questions

I work rotating shifts. How do I set my check-in time?

Change your check-in time whenever your schedule changes. Many healthcare workers adjust it weekly based on their shift rotation.

What if my shift runs over unexpectedly?

You have a grace period after your check-in time. If you're running late, you can check in as soon as you're free. If you can't, on Protect Me your family is notified.

I'm a nurse working alone in a rural clinic. Is this useful?

Very much so. On Protect Me, if something happens at the clinic and you can't check in after your shift, your family is alerted to investigate. It's your safety net in isolated settings.

Can I set different times for different shift days?

Currently one check-in time. Set it for the latest you'd typically finish, and check in earlier on shorter days.

I am an EMT and sometimes my shifts end at 2 AM. Will the alert wake my family?

Push notifications can wake someone if their phone is set to allow it. That is actually the point. On Protect Me, if you do not check in after a 2 AM shift, your family is alerted and can be woken up because it means you may not have made it home safely.

How do I handle check-ins with rotating day and night shifts?

Set your check-in for the latest time you would typically finish and get home, and adjust it as your rotation changes each week. On shorter days you simply check in earlier, which is fine. A post-shift check-in confirms you made it home safely after long hours, and because you control the time, the app keeps pace with a rotating roster rather than assuming fixed hours.

Will a late-night missed-check-in alert wake my family?

It can, and that is intentional. On Protect Me, if you do not check in after a late or overnight shift, your contact receives an escalating alert that can wake them if their phone allows it, because a missed check-in after a 2 AM finish may mean you did not make it home safely. You can brief your family in advance so they understand an alert is a genuine prompt to check on you, not a false alarm to ignore.
