I'm Alive: the free Android check-in app
I'm Alive is a free Android check-in app that turns one tap a day into peace of mind. Tap once and the day is settled; if a day goes by and you haven't, the people you trust are told. Free to start1, on Android worldwide.
What you get on Android
The same safety net as iPhone: a daily check-in, a routine that fits you, and widgets on your home screen. Android 2.3.3 has the free daily check-in, the routine picker and both home-screen widgets — the features people who live alone rely on most.
A free daily check-in, worldwide1
Open the app, tap once, and the day is settled. The daily check-in is free on Android anywhere in the world — no subscription for the check-in itself.
Two home-screen widgets2
Add the check-in widget to say you're okay without opening the app, and the contact widget to see a loved one's latest check-in at a glance. Both resize to fit your launcher.
Pick your routine4
Choose 3× Daily, Daily, or Weekly in Settings — from three windows a day to a once-a-week glance — and change it whenever life changes.
If you go quiet, someone is told1
Miss a scheduled check-in and the person you trust is told. You choose who, and nothing is shared until a check-in is actually missed. The free plan sends one alert a month; a paid plan adds unlimited alerts and full SMS escalation.
How the Android check-in works
A check-in app should be simple enough to use on your worst day, not just your best one. I'm Alive is built around a single promise: you tell it you're okay on a schedule you set, and if that message doesn't arrive, the people you trust hear about it. That is the whole mechanic, and on Android it works exactly the way it does on iPhone.
You pick a routine — 3× Daily, Daily or Weekly4 — and the app reminds you inside each window. Confirming is one tap, from the app or from the home-screen check-in widget. A widget tap isn't a shortcut that just marks the tile green; it runs the same server-confirmed check-in as the button inside the app, and the tile only turns green once our servers have recorded it3. If your phone is offline the tile says “Try again” rather than pretending you checked in.
Miss a scheduled check-in and the escalation begins. On a Daily or 3× Daily routine, your chosen emergency contact is notified that you've gone quiet. What that notice looks like depends on your plan: the free Check In plan sends one alert a month by push and email, while Stay Protected and Complete Safety Net add unlimited alerts, SMS escalation and up to 10 emergency contacts1. A Weekly routine is deliberately lighter — a rolling seven-day rhythm that ends in a single, gentle, non-emergency email to your contact rather than the full multi-stage escalation5.
Nothing is shared until a check-in is actually missed, and the check-in itself carries no location — it only says that you're okay6. That keeps the everyday routine private while still giving the people who care about you a real signal when it matters.
A routine that matches your life
Pick how often I'm Alive expects to hear from you, right in Settings4. You can change it whenever life changes — after a hospital stay you might want closer cover, and a quieter month might call for a lighter touch.
Three windows a day for closer cover — morning, afternoon and evening. A paid routine on Complete Safety Net.
One check-in a day — the default, and free to use. The right fit for most people who live alone.
A once-a-week glance for low-touch check-ins — light monitoring on a rolling seven-day rhythm, on every plan.
Who the Android check-in app is for
People who live alone. If there is no one in the next room to notice a quiet morning, a daily check-in is a light way to make sure a bad day doesn't go unnoticed. One tap settles it, and the app only reaches out to your contact if that tap never comes. See why it's built for living alone.
Adult children of an Android-owning parent. Plenty of older parents carry an Android phone, and the contact widget is made for exactly this: a loved one's latest check-in, at a glance, on your own home screen — without calling to ask “are you okay?” every day. Checking on a parent explains the family side.
Lone workers and frequent travelers. If your risk is the trip and not the day, a lighter Weekly rhythm keeps a safety net in place without a daily obligation. For work specifically, see the lone-worker check-in app.

On an iPhone too?
I'm Alive runs on both. The core safety net is identical, but a few extras are iPhone-only7 — the Apple Watch check-in, “Hey Siri, I'm OK”, the lock-screen widget and opt-in phone fall detection. See how the two compare, or set up your widgets and routine.
Android check-in app: FAQ
Is I'm Alive free on Android?
Yes. The daily check-in is free forever on the Check In plan — there is no subscription for the check-in itself, and it works on Android anywhere in the world. Paid plans add unlimited alerts, SMS escalation and up to 10 emergency contacts, but you never have to pay to check in.
What happens if I go quiet?
If you miss a scheduled check-in, the emergency contact you chose is told — nothing is shared until a check-in is actually missed. On the free plan that is one alert a month, by push and email. Stay Protected and Complete Safety Net add unlimited alerts, SMS escalation and up to 10 contacts.
Can I add a check-in widget on Android?
Yes. Android has two widgets — a check-in widget and a contact widget — and both resize to fit your launcher. A tap on the check-in widget is a real check-in that only turns green once our servers have it, and you don't need a paid plan to add a widget and check in. Android does not have a lock-screen widget; that one is iPhone-only.
Which routines can I choose?
3× Daily, Daily or Weekly, picked in Settings and changeable any time. Daily — one check-in a day — is the default and free. 3× Daily gives you three windows a day and is a paid routine on Complete Safety Net. Weekly is a lighter, once-a-week check-in available on every plan.
Does the check-in share my location?
No. The daily check-in itself never shares your location — a check-in only says that you're okay. Location is used only during a live SOS or an active journey, and both of those are opt-in.
Is there an Android smartwatch app or fall detection?
Not on Android. I'm Alive does not have a Wear OS or Android smartwatch app, and there is no Android fall detector. The Apple Watch check-in and opt-in phone fall detection are iPhone-only features.
